How we write
Editorial policy
How our advice articles are written, checked and kept up to date.
Our approach
Written from practical experience
The articles in our advice section are written to help people facing a hoarding clearance, whether in their own home, a relative's home or a property they manage. They are based on the practical side of clearance work: planning, sorting, searching for documents, working in stages and disposing of belongings responsibly.
We write in plain English, avoid judgemental language, and aim to answer the questions people actually ask us.
Who writes them
Who writes our articles
Our articles are written by the people who carry out clearances, drawing on what we see and are asked about in homes around Harrogate. Where a topic touches on law, health or support services, we check the relevant official guidance and refer readers to it rather than relying on memory.
Sources
Sources we use
We favour primary and well-established sources, such as GOV.UK, local council guidance and recognised support organisations like Hoarding UK and Mind. We link to them so readers can check the original information for themselves.
Accuracy
How articles are reviewed
- Each article is checked for accuracy before it is published
- Where we refer to rules, guidance or support services, we link to the original source, such as GOV.UK or recognised support organisations
- Every article shows the date it was last updated
- Articles are reviewed periodically and revised when guidance or our practice changes
Important
What our advice is not
Our articles are general information. They are not medical, mental health or legal advice. For questions about health or wellbeing, speak to a GP or a support organisation. For questions about probate, tenancies or property law, speak to a solicitor or the executor of the estate.
Corrections
Reporting an error
If you think something in one of our articles is wrong or out of date, please let us know through our contact page. We read every message and correct mistakes promptly, updating the article date when we do.
Transparency
How we use AI
Some of our advice articles are drafted with the help of an AI writing tool, using instructions we write about our services, our area and the way we work. These articles are labelled “Written with AI assistance”. They follow the same rules as everything else on this site: no invented prices, statistics, reviews or credentials, and general guidance only. When a member of our team has checked an article, the label says so. If you spot anything inaccurate, please tell us and we will correct it.
