About us

About Harrogate Hoarding

A local, specialist clearance service for homes affected by hoarding, built on discretion, patience and clear communication.

Why we exist

Why a specialist hoarding service

A general clearance company is set up to empty rooms quickly. A home affected by hoarding needs something different: time, careful sorting, and respect for the person whose home it is.

Harrogate Hoarding was set up to offer exactly that to people in and around Harrogate. We focus on hoarded and heavily filled homes, so we understand the practical challenges, from blocked routes and hidden documents to the worry about what the neighbours might see. We also understand that the hardest part is often making the first call. There is no need to explain or apologise before contacting us.

Who we are

Who we are

Harrogate Hoarding is a local, independent clearance service based in Harrogate. When you contact us, you speak to the people who will plan and carry out the work, not a call centre.

We are happy to show our waste carrier registration and insurance details before any work begins. You should ask any clearance company for these.

What guides us

Our values

No judgement

Hoarding can happen to anyone, for many reasons. We speak about homes and people with respect, and we never comment on how a property came to be the way it is.

Discretion

We keep the work low-key, the conversations confidential, and the details of each home private.

Pace

We work at the speed that suits the person, whether that is a single visit or a series of short sessions.

Clarity

You get a clear quotation before work starts, a plan everyone understands, and honest updates as we go.

Working together

How we work with families and professionals

We regularly work alongside family members, executors, solicitors, landlords, letting agents, support workers and housing officers. With the agreement of the person concerned, we share plans, fit around appointments and keep one named contact informed. For executors, our probate clearance service includes careful searches for documents; for landlords, we provide room-by-room notes on request. Where someone would benefit from ongoing support, we can point towards organisations such as Hoarding UK and local services.

Local knowledge

Why being local matters

We are based in Harrogate and work across roughly 12 miles around the town, from Knaresborough and Wetherby to Ripon and Pateley Bridge. Being local means we can visit to assess a property without a long wait, return for staged clearances without adding travel costs to every visit, and fit around the practical realities of the area, from terraced streets with tight parking to rural properties with long drives. It also means we know how much a quiet, respectful approach matters in close-knit communities where people know their neighbours. You can see our full coverage on the areas page.

Every home

How we approach each home

Every property we clear belongs to someone, whether they still live there, have moved into care or have died. We try to remember that at every stage. We listen before we suggest anything, explain what we plan to do and why, and check before removing anything we are unsure about. At the end of each visit, we make sure the person responsible knows exactly what has been done and what comes next.

Responsible disposal

Where belongings go

We reuse, donate or recycle where practical, and dispose of the rest responsibly through licensed facilities. We separate materials that can be recycled, pass on usable items where we can, and never fly-tip. We would always encourage anyone to ask a clearance company for its waste carrier registration before hiring it, and that includes us.

Our promises

What we don't do

  • We don't pressure anyone into a clearance or into getting rid of belongings
  • We don't use sensational before-and-after photos
  • We never post pictures of a home without permission
  • We don't discuss a property or the people in it with neighbours
  • We don't remove items that have been marked as staying
